Seth Vance's Websites

Websites & Services

Since making my first website in 2004, web development marked my advent into the world of IT and programming. I have made many websites for individual clients and companies in the Charlotte area and beyond. Here, however, is a list of websites, web apps, and services that I have created and maintain personally.

All of my personal websites conform to the following standards:

  1. Built without frameworks, libraries, or unnecessary overhead.
  2. Only uses JavaScript when it is absolutely necessary.
  3. When JavaScript is used, typically it will only be pure JavaScript, JAB, or jQuery.
  4. Validated before upload using Lint/Page's instance of Accumulus.
  5. Adheres to HTML 5 Semantics
  6. Uses compact and efficient CSS, alongside a straightforward & plain layout
  7. Provides uncomplicated access to information.
  8. Follows SEO & open-graph best practices.
  9. Conforms to my privacy guidelines.

Why do I set so many rules for myself?

The web should not be as slow and clunky as it is, and this is my small contribution to fixing that problem. I also aim to make my websites as accessible as possible. Accessibility is not only for screen readers; but for older devices as well. This is why my personal websites may seem basic; however, they are just as functional as anything else can be. More modern, sleek designs are certainly cool, and if my clients want something like that I certainly deliver. But personally, for me, I like the more straightforward and clean approach.

List of Websites

FarAwayForests

The FarAwayForests website is my primary personal website. Here, I share information about myself, my photography, my software, my websites, documentation about my software, information, guides, and my thoughts and opinions on all things that interest me. If you are reading this, congratulations, you are already here! If you are interested in reading more, I recommend checking out my index page first as it I feel it offers a good abstract of everything this website, and its creator is all about.

BHI.Guide

BHI Guide is a directory of information, such as phone numbers, addresses, hours of operation, websites, menus, locations, email addresses, etc. of the many shops, businesses, stores, and restaurants on Bald Head Island, a popular vacation destination in Brunswick County, North Carolina. I used to visit the island frequently, and discovered that most of the websites for the companies on the island were difficult to navigate or find anything on. And, of course, each website had to be sought out. This consolidates useful information in a modern web application that be saved to one's phone, and accessed easily even in areas on the island that have poor reception. It allows the automatic launching of the browser, the email application, the maps application, or the phone application on anyone's phone to make their island experience much more enjoyable.

Lint.Page

Lint/Page is my hosted instance of Accumulus, a Node server software that I maintain. Anyone can created their own Accumulus instance, this one is just mine. It features runtime & service optimizations that make it very fast and responsive. Lint/Page itself will feature a web-based Accumulus management engine to make it easier for educators, instructors, and teaching-assistants to be able to manage their easily and effectively create managed Accumulus kits that they can then implement into their classrooms.

Car-Veyor

CarConveyor, or, Car-Veyor is an attempt to make a search engine capable of searching all major car sales website at once. This search engine has basic tools to assist in filtering and ordering results from sites such as cars.com, Autotrader, Ebay, Craigslist, CarsAndBids, BringATrailer, Edmunds, CarGurus, and more. This is not a scraper or ex-filtration tool. Its primary purpose is only as a search engine, connecting people to the content on other's websites. This is an ongoing project and is currently unreleased.

Porgs.Org

Porgs.Org, or Porg-Sorg, is simply a fun collection of GIFs of Porgs, a fictional bird like creature from the Star Wars Sequel trilogy (and if you ask me, one of the few good things to come out of the trilogy). Porgs are bird like creatures inspired by the puffin penguin, and they are adorable. Why make this? fun websites used to exist. They are dying off and a very depressing and aggressive rate. Here is another one to help fill the void.

PolesApart

PolesApart is link based group location sharing web application. This was not built with any particular purpose in mind. All tracks are temporary, expire after a preset amount of time, and can be password protected. When the track expires, all information associated with the track is deleted from the database for maximum privacy and security. This project is currently unreleased

Digivolve.net

Made for those who enjoyed the (1999) Digimon Movie. Sort of a, if-you-know-what-scene-its-from, you-know-what-scene-its-from sort of website.Somehow my ownership of this domain lapsed and it was purchased by some stupid marketing company. The following link takes you to an internal clone.

RoamTheLand

RoamTheLand is an upcoming project that I designed back in 2009 as a new type of social network. Unfortunately due to factors in my life, this has become one of my lower-priority projects to finish.
